RESOLVED Request Panel Config Instruction Data for Multiple Instances Within Single Config

Recommended Posts

Hi folks, I am more of an advanced user when it comes to using payware gauges like this, mainly with custom crafted 2D panel sets for cockpit building.  I want to have at least three instances of the weather radar within a single panel config file to allow for many possible user variations so that myself and others, depending on how many monitors are in use, can make the best overall use of the panel set.

For example, this would be for a full screen IFR panel with the radar as a separate pop-up window for toggling on / off,  second is a co-pilot panel which will have a full radio stack and the radar placed on the panel next to the stack, and lastly the radar hard mounted in the Virtual Cockpit on the co-pilot side so that it reflects the same install visually as the 2D copilot panel.

I already have a comprehensive 2D panel config ready to go and will be sharing it for free once completed, but I just need to know the specific required details and code entry for each instance the gauge is used as it may be slightly different than I'm accustomed to.  For example with Mindstar gauges each has a .ini file as well each instance of the gauge within a single panel config file is ordered / listed numerically and each instance also has to share the numerical ident= attributes for whichever [windowxx] it is placed on.   I'm not guessing the weather radar will be quite that complex but I figured it might be very similar.

Unfortunately this key information is not included in the user manual, only the information on using the auto-installation utility which is more likely only used for installing a single a pop-up and or only the VC install so I could not find where anyone has posted or answered this specific question on in-depth use with multiple gauge instances within a single panel config.

Thanks for the help.  I look forward to using this and in turn hope to help other people as well.

Jeff.

I just wanted to post a similar, but maybe simpler question, but then found this new thread, so I hope it helps both of us if I ask here.

In the Avsim thread Cessna 441 and Milviz Wx Weather Radar I posted instructions about how to add this radar not only as a popup (which works fine by itself), but show it inside the virtual cockpit, too (which works fine by itself).

But only one instance of the weather radar shows any weather, while the colorful test pattern shows fine in all instances.

I have tested with VC+popup and two separate popups, only the first one defined shows any weather. Docked or undocked popup does not make any difference. Update 2 and update 3 behave identically.

I'm using FSX+Acceleration on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit with a Geforce GTX 260. A side note: The RolASN weather radar has the same problem, I hoped this one would work better in this aspect.

The simple question is: Can two MILVIZ/REX WX Advantage Weather Radars be displayed at the same time? (details like same/different ranges/modes etc. can be discussed after this has been confirmed).

Only 1 instance of the gauge is supported as far as ranges/modes go although you can duplicate the displays as many times as you like. This is due to the way the controls are handled. For separate display instances, 3rd party developer skills would be necessary in order to use our API.

By "separate display instances" do you mean operating independently in a functional sense or  simply multiple instances within a single panel config file (as that is what I'm getting at).    I think that is what you mean when you say  "you can duplicate the displays as many times as you like".   Again, I just want to have one instance placed on the panel in the VC, one instance as a pop-up, and one instance on a 2D panel, be it on the main panel or a co-pilot panel for example, and have them all work in the same way so when I press a button or twist a knob on one unit, the same thing is automatically occurring to the others at the same time.

And there's really no need to ever view all three of these at the same time concurrently, nor should each one function independently of the others, aside from just being a duplicate entry.  At most I think people will only want this in both the VC and as a pop-up but I took it a step further with also wanting an instance on a 2D panel.   So,  I just want to use one gauge, same function, in three different places just like you commonly would with other gauges within a panel set.   For example lets say this was a radio on the 2D panel which I turn on.  If I open the pop-up with the same radio or switch to the VC, the radio would then also be on because it's the exact same gauge and therefore functions the same in a mirrored fashion even though its been assigned and or duplicated under a different window.  From the last post by ThomasAH it sounds like this is a no go and only an either / or but not both situation which is a shame.

SO... Is this actually the case?  Is this possible at all?   And if it's not are you, or rather will you guys please make it so in another update!?

SimSamurai:So we want exactly the same :)

But exactly this doesn't work for me. Only the test pattern shows.

If that's the case yes. You can. Although I don't think I have tried more than 2 instances at a time though.

Good to know that it should work ;D

Now we just have to find out, why it doesn't for me (and I think SimSamurai).

I have tested it with the Flysimware MU-2B version 2.2 (which includes the panel config for VC+popup by default) and ported/adjusted this config for the Flysimware C441 (I posted my exact configuration in the Avsim thread I linked above).

Can you verify that it still works with the current version (Update 3)?

What do you need from me to debug this?

The only aircraft I have tested multiple instances in are the Milviz C310 and B55 (one instance in the VC, one 2D popup).

The question I will ask regarding the blank display is, what kind of weather conditions are you testing in? This radar is not a cloud map. It is a precipitation map (affected by clouds yes) but if there is no rain in the clouds they won't show up. And several people have made this mistake already so I am somewhat wary of diving into the code again until conditions are verified. If they are, does the radar work if you have only one instance, but stops when you add the second?

The condition were heavy rain and were displayed fine on one of the two radars (VC in the case of VC+popup, one of two popups in case I configure two popups and no VC).

Here is an example with historical weather from ASN:

I verified it, this time in the MU-2B:
Cycling through the various modes (including off), ranges or tilt values, or changing brightness or gain does not make any difference: VC works, popup not.

As the MU-2B has official integration, I even tried if using the VC buttons helps, but it does not.

Additionally I tried popping up the popup via different methods (Click on VC radar, Shift-5): Same behaviour.

P.S.: Thanks for your reactions, even during the weekend!

Weird....Do me a favour and upload the panel cfg please.

Here they are: flysimware-panel-ThomasAH.zip

FLYSIM Mitsubishi MU 2B 60/panel.Main/panel.cfg is the unmodified version from Flysimware's MU-2B-60 version 2.2

FLYSIM Cessna 441/panel.Main/panel.cfg is modified by me, see the Avsim thread linked in the second post.

I'll have to admit, this has me somewhat stumped because the exact same configuration is available in the Milviz C310 and B-55 and it has always worked fine in those 2. I will need some time to think about this.

I don't have these two. Do you have a config for one of the default FSX aircraft or the now free P-38?

Edit: I just added two popup panels to the default FSX C127, one popup shows the weather, the other doesn't:

Window06=WX Advantage Radar 1
Window07=WX Advantage Radar 2

[Window06]
ident = 71
visible = 0
sizeable = 1
size_mm = 419,381
position = 0
window_size = 0.343511450381679,0.556719107690809
window_pos = 0.65,0.0
gauge00 = MV_WX!WX2D,0,0,419,381,1
gauge01 = MV_WX!WX,64,121,291,205,1

[Window07]
ident = 71
visible = 0
sizeable = 1
size_mm = 419,381
position = 0
window_size = 0.343511450381679,0.556719107690809
window_pos = 0.65,0.5
gauge00 = MV_WX!WX2D,0,0,419,381,1
gauge01 = MV_WX!WX,64,121,291,205,1

I just copy&pasted the ident/visible numbers from the MU-2B-60, should I change anything here?

I just disabled everything but Modules\MV_WXM.dll from dll.xml and everything from exe.xml, so no ASN, no FSUIPC, nothing else: Same problem, VC shows rain (FSX weather theme "Major Thunderstorms"), popup does not.

Could it be that the WX radar hits limited resources on the graphics card? I'm using the GTX 260 mentioned above, SimSamurai has the specs in his signature: GPU#1 BFG GTS 250 (slot 1) GPU#2 BFG GTS 250 (slot 2), GPU#3 EVGA GTX 285 2gb edition.

In two other threads, where people reported "Failed to create Render Target" and "Failed to create Render Target View" it was said that the WX radar processes the precipitation data on the GPU and the GeForce 200 series might be problematic in this regard.

That could possibly be. I'll admit, there was one point where I was testing on GeForce 200 series and things worked fine but that was very early in development. It might not so much be a case of limited resources though, as much as other possible incompatibilities with these video cards.

I just turned this problem into a feature by only showing the controls (and not the radar display) in the popup, as shown in the Avsim thread:

accoF7K.jpg

So my problem is resolved by only using a single radar display, and an EZCA view displaying only GPS and weather radar.

But I assume SimSamurai still needs more than one radar display for his setup, and if the current code can produce one image, producing two should be possible. Maybe this even is an indication that the radar image is calculated twice instead of just once, and fixing this could increase performance for multiple displays?

It isn't quite possible to calculate it only once because multiple render targets and devices are needed since a 2D gauge popup will not give the same texture size as a VC popup. I will investigate this further.

Also, provided the user has a lower mid range video card and fairly decent CPU capable of running FSX, the display shouldn't have much if any performance impact even with multiple displays.

I am just checking in to see if the issue you are experiencing has been resolved?
