FPS issues on power rig system

Recommended Posts

First things first my system:

AMD AM3 Socket Phenom II 965BE OC @ 4.0Ghz & Northbridge overclocked to 2600Mhz (Both stable after 24hour torture test on prime95 & at safe temps)

Gigabyte ATI 7970 3GB DDR5

16GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM

1TB SATA2 Hard Disk

1TB External for backups etc

Addons

FS Global 2010

REX Essential OD

GEX EU, US, ASIA, AF&ME

Ultimate Traffic 2
GSX

World Ground Traffic X

Countless addon sceneries

UK2000 Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton, London City

PMDG 737 & 747

Many other ACs

Shader 3 Mod

The Problem

I understand that many people have a far lesser system than what I have, however they are able to run a smooth flight with fraps recording with good frames. I have really good frames overall but there are just some scenery situations that are really getting on my nerves.

The flight I always load (not set as default flight) is PMDG 737 at UK2000 Heathrow (UK2000 has a low scenery setting in its options, which is what I am currently using) and I let the traffic inject into the gam, then full throttle off down the runway and I average at about 10-12FPS in the VC of the PMDG737 while watching the traffic pass by as I go down the runway. As the plane gets faster the FPS becomes more noticeable visually. I am posting my FSX.cfg at the bottom of this post to help you guys who may be helping me out here :).

PS Ive done the 4GB patch, used internal and external frame limiter, and currently I've disabled the default.xml for the excess autogen until fixed (tried the fsx autogen tree & buildings tweaks, didn't seem to change anything autogen wise).

Heres my FSX.cfg (Ran through bojotes fsx.cfg tweaker before)

At the end of the day, regardless of system power, when we fly into hyper detailed payware airports, or over highly detailed scenery add-on's, performance will suffer. Couple that with high def clouds, extreme weather, and demanding aircraft add-ons and the situation is even worse.

Sliders... adjust them accordingly. There isn't necessarily anything wrong with your system.

I don't have any high detail airport add-ons, just GEX, UTX, and REX.... thus, I fly around with VERY high frame rate.

AMD CPU's aren't exactly the bees knees. Intel Ivy Bridge or Haswell is superior.

I doubt your issue is related to UsePools=0. This entry bypasses the GPU's buffer, and sends the data directly to the GPU. In heavy weather scenarios you should see a frame rate increase. However, as with all tweaks, try without any at all in your cfg, and see if there is an improvement. Evaluate each tweak in turn and either keep or reject dependant on the results.

In short, I would say your issue is related to the hyper detailed scenery add-on's you run, in relation to the CPU power at your disposal.

Thanks for your input guys, in the end I managed to sort the frames with the reducing of the scenery complexity graphics, but I'm at witts end with FSX now, I had numerous problems with my system so did a full reformat, fully updated drivers and DirectX and now I'm having the g3d.dll error, and I've only got the scenery files I've always used installed, I have no other addons except the standard FCUICP and 4GB patch....I'm at Witts end now, will possibly be posting a new topic soon, not sure though as I might just forget flight simulator X, thanks for your help for this topic though guys :)

I would have deleted you .cfg and let it rebuild.  Bjotes tweak tool is getting long in the tooth these days especially for newer hardware. Have a look at Kostas guide for setting up FSX. The only tweaks you should be doing initially is the Affinity Mask tweak 14 assuming you are only running 4 cores and the HIGHMEMFIX tweak to start with. Also the wideviewaspect true tweak if you are running a wide screen monitor.  There are far to many tweaks around to try and before you know it you loose track of whats what and FSX turns into a slide show.

Now as for folk saying they can record with FRAPS at 30fps stutter free....I say Bull S**T. No way man, I`ve been making pretty high quality FSX videos for a few years and even on my i72600k clocked to 4.5ghz I can not achieve anywhere near those FPS at EGLL with fraps running. They are rendering the video with FSRecorder or slowing the sim down to 10fps and recording with FRAPS at 10fps then speeding the footage up again in Sony Vegas. I have to do this with complex scenes at big airports.

Usually I get 22fps at UK2000 EGLL with OrbX England running and its smooth but its on the limits of being stuttery. Don't believe all you read on youtube vidoes lol

Don't over tweak, Haswell is the way to go, check out NickN's guide for proper installation or Kosta, too many addons eventually kill FSX

I wouldnt even use those Bojote tweaks, honestly. They may or may not help, but Ive always thought of them as placebos.

If you have an account on Facebook, check FSX Performance issue's tip's & tweak's page:

https://www.facebook.com/pages/FSX-Performance-issues-tips-tweaks/178280192282579?ref=ts&fref=ts

You will find them a PDF with tweaking guide.

It's is made by one of REX "Inside The Shot" Series Artists - Paul.

He explain there a lot of things there. Maybe it's not expanded guide like from other tweakers, but it's good enough to see if it's help to you.

I dont use any of the addons you have mentioned, Ive only got Orbx New Zealand scenery and even the standard auckland airport scenery drops my frames, there are alot of shapes and various things to render. I conducted a test and flying at 4000 in the carenado C90 at 210k over the country side heading north at a distance of 25nm from auckland i was getting according to fraps benchmark test 27-30fps, then 18nm out from auckland airport i noticed the decrease in fps the average frame rate was 14-17, the closer I got it didnt matter it still averaged 14-17. This is just upgraded basic airport scenery nothing like Uk2000 stuff but still there are alot of pologons etc to render and not to mention the detailed pmdg 737. Im a nvidia user so I cant help with ATI cards, but one thing I can say in my nearly 4 years of tweaking fsx is.... keep it basic, fsx is a cpu hungry game, big gpus dont help that much with pcs under 4ghz I have found, these latest I7 chips at 4.4- 5ghz will help us with fps better then 3gb gpu, again imho. After all that time tweaking I have found these to be of benefit to me..

I have my fsx settings set high as well as nvidia inspector settings high as well, but no matter how much I tweak, play with, change etc, big cities, big detailed cockpits and big airports will slow my experience down, my suggestion, take everything back to default , fsx.cfg, shaders(I see you have shader mod). These settings at this level will tax your system also: CLOUD_COVERAGE_DENSITY=8, AUTOGEN_DENSITY=5. Try locking your frames at 25-30, and the g3d.dll error i have found in the past was because of to higher settings, had it a couple of times when Orbx released PNW scenery a few years ago and I was trying to get my sim to run like a 600hp kenworth but for the price of a 1500cc car.

All the best buddy keep us posted, your pc is able to run the game good, keep trying.

Before going to wits end and reformatting, may I suggest just reinstalling your video card drivers? Use the default settings when you reboot, and start FSX. If it still stutters like crazy, then reinstall whatever you think is necessary. More often than not, its a setting inside the video card control panel that causes the big conflicts.

Very Good point, +1 for this recommendation

Hehe, you guys have it all wrong. I've gone through tinkering around more than I have enjoyed flying...it is soooo sad.

I say just bump the sliders down and enjoy the flight....this battle for FPS will never end, I know and I'm sure most other guys do as well. The best thing is to just lower the settings and have fun. It's all there is to it. You will beat yourself to death trying to get max quality at high FPS.
