  1. I don't have a REX E folder, or an E folder, or any pdf anywhere in my REX installation.
  2. Hi. I have REX Essential + Overdrive HD, version 3.8.2014.1126 I have a link under Program to the manual, but it points to the ./Help subdirectory of my REX install which is empty. I've found a copy of the 3.7 manual but there are significant differences between that and 3.8. Thanks.
  3. Interesting indeed, and thanks very much for your help. I followed your steps. At first I didn't think it had made any difference, at ground level the sea was still completely flat, the texture slid over the surface giving a flowing effect (it had done that before but I forgot to mention it) but I didn't see anything that looked like waves. But then when I took off and climbed to about 500ft I could see the texture animating and waves and whitecaps appearing and disappearing. I'm not sure it's working on all wave animations though, Sparkling for instance is completely static. Use This! though looks really good. I have to admit though I was expecting to see actual 3D waves in the mesh like you do in something like Kerbal Space Program, what I'm seeing is an animated texture on a flat mesh giving the illusion of waves. Is that as it should be? If so it's not a major problem, the effect is decent enough once you get in the air. Lastly I have two related questions. Is it not possible to select a different water animation for inland and ocean water? In Scotland where I do most of my flying the sea is normally quite rough so you need a full on wave animation for that, but the islands and mountains are covered in small ponds, lakes and lochs and they need a far more subtle pattern. Having to use the same animation for both is really incongruous. Lastly I seem to recall that I used to see waves crashing on the shore in FSX before, and I've also seen something like that in videos people have posted on the web too, but I'm not seeing that myself, nor any settings to adjust that. Is there any functionality in that area?
  4. I bought REX Essential plus Overdrive a few days ago. At first it didn't work at all but a complete reinstall and upgrade of FSX to SP2 and reinstall of REX fixed that. Now the weather injection works but the wave animation doesn't. No matter what I select in Textures -> Water Animation it has no effect in game at all. The water has the same glassy bland stock FSX look and there is no animation whatsoever. I'm pretty sure I'm configuring it correctly because if I change the water texture then I do see an effect on the colour of the water, just no waves or animation. In FSX I have Mesh Resolution at 1m, I've tried all combinations of Water Effects from Low 2.x to Max 2.x all effect settings maxed except Autogen Density. I've tried DX9 and DX10 Preview. In REX I've tried Options -> Wave Animation DXT1 and 32 bit, DX10 Optimsed set to match DX setting in FSX and loads of the Textures -> Wave Animation options. All to no effect and no errorlog is being produced. What am I doing wrong, what should I check? Win7 x64, 8 Gig system RAM, GTX760 4Gig VRAM, HD free space 150Gig, No network REX (whatever that is), FSX version 10.0.61472.0, Internet connection active, no antivirus, UAC off, FSX at C:\Programs\FSX\Microsoft Flight Simulator X, REX at C:\Programs\FSX\REX Essential Plus Overdrive, Rate at which weather changes in FSX is set to no change, Not using a flightplan, almost all REX settings are stock (using WxPlus mode). installlog.txt
  5. I just uninstalled and reinstalled everything after first upgrading FSX to Service Pack 2, which I didn't even know existed when I did the first install. And it worked perfectly first time. Might want to fix your installer to check for that and save wasting other people's time.
  6. I just bought REX Essential PLUS with OverDrive. I've read the manual and there is a lot of detail there about the individual systems and the details of their configuration, but I don't see much information about the best way to achieve basic tasks. What I'd want to be able to do is decide whether I want to use live weather or just choose a weather theme then choose an airfield and fly, but I'm really struggling to work out how to do this. I've read through the manual and have FSX and REX configured as recommended. I have WxPlus mode selected. On the Textures page I've left it at the default theme and clicked Install. I load REX. I select Weather and 'Use REX random weather themes'. On the Weather page under 'STEP 1 Select Weather Region' I click Search and select airfield North Connel (on the Scottish coast). Under 'STEP 2 Create Weather theme' I select Spring and Severe and then click Generate. A weather map appears. Underneath it says "The weather may not generate in flight simulator due to limited weather stations". I don't know why that is. I click 'WX Textures' which causes REX to load textures which takes a very long time. While this is occurring the 'REX Texture Engine' progress dialog is stuck in the middle of my desktop, it can't be moved and it screws up the rendering of my entire desktop. Finally I click fly now and FSX loads. In FSX itself under Current Weather is a button 'Change'. Opening that there are 4 options. 1. Weather Themes 2. Real world weather (static) 3. Real world weather (updated every 15 minutes) 4. User defined weather. I don't know which of those I should have selected, the REX manual doesn't say. I click 'Fly now' and it doesn't look good. The sky is blue, the sea is turquoise and flat as a mill pond. Something's not right but I don't know what. I have 'Enable green message bar within the simulator' selected, but I see no message bar in FSX and no notifications of any weather injections. There is a section in the manual that states: "When using the REX weather engine, specifically mode, you will notice a selection named inside the FSX Current Weather area. This contains the last imported weather from ." This is not present. It appears my install of REX is totally non-functional but it isn't giving me any indication of an error or any clues as to how to fix it. Help please! --REX error log says-- ERROR TRAPING FOR REX ESSENTIAL Class Location: frmMain.runNewWeatherEngine Error: The specified module could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E) --- Win7 x64, 8 Gig system RAM, GTX760 4Gig VRAM, HD free space 150Gig, No network REX (whatever that is), FSX version 10.0.60905, Internet connection active, no antivirus, UAC off, FSX at C:\Programs\FSX\Microsoft Flight Simulator X, REX at C:\Programs\FSX\REX Essential Plus Overdrive, Rate at which weather changes in FSX is set to no change, Not using a flightplan, almost all REX settings are stock (using WxPlus mode).
