REAL ENVIRONMENT XTREME for X-Plane
- REX source material was photographed from a film camera using 4"x5" film transparency, by a professional photographer and pilot. We do not use digital cameras as the resolutions would not have been acceptable even by todays standards.
We then selected photographs in correct "matching" lighting & weather situations and put the selected transparencies through a process known as Digital Laser Drum Scanning using a SCREEN DTS high-resolution drum scanner. All transparencies are mounted behind oil onto a drum cylinder made of specialized glass. A laser then scans the transparency at a resolution of up to 16,000px native resolution. Film density cannot be matched by digital photography, and that density is crucial for the clarity and sharpness of our material. We don't master from 4096 pixes, in most cases we master from 16,000 pixels.
