The Configuration Manager has been fully revamped into a powerful tool all on its own. Because there are so many new features in REX Essential, we now include several different "tabbed" areas, consisting of the following system settings:
GENERAL SETTINGS
WEATHER ENGINE
VISIBILITY
WINDS
CLOUDS
In this article we will focus on the GENERAL SETTINGS tab, primarily used for selecting basic system settings. This area consists of settings for the FSX.cfg file location, configuration for the FSX Folder or Prepar3D folder location as well as managing your texture backup/restore functions.
New to this area is the profile name setting which allows the user to attach a profile name to the various community shared features within REX Essentials, and an option to enable/disable 'in-application notifications'. Also, since there are now navigational sound effects throughout the REX GUI, we offer an option to enable/disable these as well.
Since there are NUMEROUS configuration options, we have now included a "Backup/Restore Configuration" procedure in which the user may setup a profile on our data servers via REX Essential allowing REX to back up ALL global configuration settings. After re-installing REX, the user may recall ALL previously stored settings with one click.
The final area to discuss within the GENERAL SETTINGS area is the new PREPAR3D area. Within REX Essential, a user will not only have the benefit of using the textures and weather features with FSX, but they will now be able to unlock features specific for PREPAR3D. Within the new configuration window the user will be able to enter a special license to unlock all the functions associated with REX Essential.
Next Feature: Weather Engine Settings
We will describe some of the new features within the configuration window associated with our new weather engine.

Just a question : what do you prefer, a release next month with nearly no bugs or a release next week with a lot of bugs ?
Oh 2nd question : what in case there are too many bugs, saying that REX Essential is a bad product because of too early release ?

I am just happy they are sharing progress with us, and updates....every time I read a post, I am happier and happier I didn't jump on the ActiveSky bandwagon.

Will you "Have" to purchse prepar3D to be able to download essential as a free upgrade?
Is this free upgrade directly connected to Prepar3D and if so will this have to be purchased to enable a free download of essential?

The fact that "Essential" is free, is nothing to do with Prepare3D.
It's free no matter what.
The Prepare3D options are purely for those that happen to have Prepare 3D.
It's free, rejoice! Because the developer is awesome.

Also will it be able across a network as easy as ASE/AS2012? I never really tried to get the old REX weather engine to do so, not sure if its possible.

Because it's "Essential"I have a question:
Anyone know why this is called REX Essentials as opposed to Rex 3.xx?
Texture loading times are insane because folks don't read the manuals. It only takes that long to load water textures because they are CREATED ON THE FLY... AND loaded. Turn them off in the OPTIONS manager and loads are 'insanely' fastWill the loading time for the textures still be insane!! Also my computer screen kinda wigs out while the textures are loading. Has that been an issue that was identified?

May I suggest that you turn the option off as a default position ? because I too would really like to enjoy the insanely fast texture loading. Or perhaps we're not talking about the same thing : new themes take ages to be copied into FSX directory. But, correct me if I'm wrong : I think it was announced to be corrected with Essential. Am I right ?It only takes that long to load water textures because they are CREATED ON THE FLY... AND loaded. Turn them off in the OPTIONS manager and loads are 'insanely' fast
Come on, are you kidding ?Texture loading times are insane because folks don't read the manuals
Beside that, I have to say that the preview shots are really amazing. I'm glad you guys work so hard, because honnestly the result is a piece of art. Bravo.
