New Year In New Zealand

20 posts in this topic

Took the Fokker F27-600 up for a tour around the Christchurch, NZ area.  Wow.  Pretty country!  A little north along the coast, then turning inland for some fun in the mountains.  Returning to the plains and setting down back at Christchurch International.  Rather brisk crosswind made the landing interesting, but I came off very well.

Happy New Year to all of my friends here at REX  8);D8)

Lovely shots. Great aircraft, pity that this one is not available for FSX.

Nice set DJ! I love that country too, but how do you know to pick the countries where I have relatives living? In NZ 2 of my bro's are living, but both on the North Island. Got a nephew living on the South Island though!

In the radio biz, we'd call that a "psychic playlist" -- where the song your thinking of, or maybe a song related to something you're talking with friends about suddenly comes over the air.

Psychic Sim?

Seems to have your number, doesn't it?  ;)

I'll take a spin around the northern island soon, as well as play around on the big island some more.  This is pretty a country!  I only have one nice airport, though.  Christchurch Intl.

Awww heck - I quoted Eberhard and meant to quote Kees for that "psychic sim" comment.  Too much coffee, I guess.  :-[

I already thought that your post was referring to the relatives and not to the availibility of an airplane for FSX! ;D

FSX?  What's that?  ;)

I really should reset the keyboard defaults and uninstall EZDOK since I have no clue how it works anymore and it always confuses the crap out of me whenever I do strap on an FSX plane.  Somebody needs to clue me where all the cool FREE planes are for FSX, too.  I've been blown away by all that's out there for XP.  Surely there's got to be lots for FSX.  I just never found any.

Me neither, but with sales of great planes for 9,99 and 5,00 in whatever currency I'm a happy camper! ;D (would be great if the currency was some equatorial mickey mouse money)

Hi DJ,

I know that this is an old set but somehow I stumbled upon this only now. These were some of the most realistic shots I have ever seen from X-plane. Is this the default global scenery or something else was in use here if you remember?

Also as a general question do you use the weather engine as well from Rexplane or only the textures. Some of the low cirrus you have look really amazing.

Could you please educate me a little on some of the general rendering and weather settings u use in Xplane and REX?

Thanks I really appreciate it. I would like to start one of the IVAO world tours in Xplane (hopefully finishing it in 10 after Xmas - and I want it to look the very best)

Cheers,

Alex

Hi Alex,

I remember that flight! It was a very nice one.

This, and all my x-plane shots are using the default scenery. I do add in some airport scenery, but haven't used any custom photo real scenery or anything like that.

I use both the REXPlane Wx Engine and textures, but probably more of the latter. Depends on my mood, I guess.

If I were you, I'd just keep flying with REXPlane and see how things play out and what you like and don't like. I find a really natural sky can be achieved with just the cirrus cloud settings and a nice set of REX textures that include some thicker, cumulus-like characteristics.

Rendering settings will vary from system to system. This Best Performance X-Plane Wiki article has some good advice for tuning. Or just try setting everything to "default" and un-check everything, check your frame rates, then start checking everything and going for higher than "default." At some point you're going to take a frame hit. Unlike FSX, there's not a ton of stuff you have to diddle with. If you have an nvidia card, you can use the nvidia inspector to offload some of the AA and AF work to the driver.

Let me know if you need further guidance.

I'm flying the current version of X-Plane 9. If you install from an earlier decimal release of 9, you can perform an update within the software to get you current.

Of course, I'm flying using the latest REXPlane, too.

The plane is the Fokker F27-600, and you can get it here: http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=11933

** you may need an account and be logged in to get to that url, but it's free to register and there's TONS of free stuff there.

The controls are fully configurable, so if it is really messing with your head that the keyboard commands or joystick buttons are not the same, you can make it behave more like FSX if you wish.

Happy flying! There's a beautiful X-World out there...

Well this means I must buy REX for Xplane then and I know REX is like Diamonds.
